Collecting work
Three ways in, and you can mix them on one assignment. For example, scan the paper exams yourself and let a student who missed class hand in with the join code.
Upload the scans yourself
On the assignment’s Grading tab, drop in photos or PDFs. Phone photos, iPhone HEIC images, and PDFs all work. This is the usual way for a paper exam: scan the pile once, upload the file, grade.
One PDF with the whole class in it? Tick One or more files contain multiple students’ work before you upload. RavenGrader finds where each student’s pages start and end and matches them to names. Click Review & grade on the scan card to check the split, then confirm it.

Class join code
Each course has a join code. Students go to ravengrader.com/join, type the code (or scan its QR code), pick the assignment, and upload photos of their work. No account needed. Good for take-home work, remote students, and makeups.

Canvas
With the Canvas integration, students hand in through Canvas as usual and their work shows up in RavenGrader. Grades go back to the Canvas gradebook when you release them. See Canvas (LTI).
Sending results
Feedback reports
Every graded paper has a private report page: the student’s score and feedback on each question. Students open it from a link, with no account needed, and can print it or save it as a PDF. On the Students tab, Email report sends the link to each student you’ve ticked, or you can copy one student’s link from their row.
- Each link is private. It opens one student’s report and can’t be changed to reach anyone else’s.
- It always shows the latest grade. Fix a score and the report shows the fix the next time it’s opened. Nothing needs to be sent again.
Gradebook, CSV, and PDFs
- Canvas: Release grades sends scores to the Canvas gradebook.
- Export CSV on the Students tab: a file you can upload to Canvas or any LMS that takes one.
- Download PDF: the pages each student handed in, exactly as they came in. One student gives you a PDF; several give you a zip.
A note on student data
Student work is handled on behalf of you and your institution. Requests to delete or correct a student’s records go through you or your institution, not to us directly. Acting on them without your institution’s say-so could itself break FERPA.
